The Massachusetts Medical Society was founded in 1781 by Dr Edward Augustus Holyoke. A library patio at the headquarters in Waltham MA has been named Holyoke Terrace.

Sandy Ward > Dr. Edward Augustus Holyoke practiced medicine in Salem, MA, for 80 years, lived over 100 years. He was the first graduate of Harvard Medical School and he founded the Massachusetts Medical Society.  Connections to Holyoke, MA?  His great, great grandfather Elizur named the mountain -- long before the city of Holyoke existed-- and one of his descendents, Dr Frank Holyoke (1855-1933), practiced medicine in Holyoke for 51 years.
