Scouting the river (Cleanup) : An inventory of items that should be removed from the Connecticut River began on the hot afternoon of July 16, 2008, with river level between 5.5 and 6.5 feet (according the USGS data at Rt 391 bridge). Mary and I paddled a canoe along the Chicopee shore of the Connecticut River, scouting for trash. With GPS, maps, notepad, and camera, we tried to document the location of each "find" so that it can be found again and removed in the fall cleanup. A few days later I walked along the Holyoke shore and added more photos.

UMass student teams built the site; I'm a volunteer on the Web Team that planned the project in response to needs expressed in the first Holyoke "Coalition of Coalitions" meeting (April 2007). Pets : An assignment in Spanish class ["Haz una lista de todas las mascotas que tenías tú cuando eras niña"] brought to mind several unusual pets I had had in childhood. I started to tell about my pet raccoon ["un mapache"]. The teacher asked us to bring photos to the next class and come prepared to tell stories about our pets. Could I find a photo? That led me on a search through boxes of old photos, documents, and slides. What treasures I found! A few were worth digitizing and sharing here. Now I will also add photos of more recent pets.
