Shanghai - Sandy Ward's Photos

12 wonderful days in Shanghai, China, July 5 - July 17, 2005. Ken had to work long hours, but I was free to explore and observe. This was my first trip to east Asia. For even more photos, see Ken's Shanghai slideshow, which combines his and my photos.

Sandy Ward > My first day in Shanghai. The temperature was comfortable, thanks to the rain. (Previous days had broken heat records.) This is Nanjing Road, now a pedestrian mall.

Sandy Ward > Cruise boat with dragon heads; barge carrying logs on Huangpu River; buildings across the river are in the Pudong New Area, which is growing rapidly.

Sandy Ward > Our very comfortable hotel room, 8th floor of the Yangtze Hotel, 740 Hankou Road, Shanghai. Built in 1930's.

Sandy Ward > Lotus blossoms in People's Park. Ken took a beautiful close-up of a blossom. Note the seed pod that remains after petals fall.

Sandy Ward > Lotus seed pods for sale (basket on right). People eat the seeds inside, I've been told. But I did not try one, or see anyone eating them.

Sandy Ward > Some lotus flowers reach high above the others, and so do some buildings. This tower building is called "Tomorrow Square" and includes a Marriott Hotel inside.

Sandy Ward > A white lotus blossom. Most are pink.

Sandy Ward > Look closely at the top of these two buildings. Inspired by an opening lotus flower, I think. This is in Pudong New Area near Century Park.

Sandy Ward > People's Park, Shanghai, is well used by people morning, noon and evening. Note the morning exercising and the couple catching crawfish.
