Throughout the weekend, we continued to add books from the basement storage pile. We had hoped that these boxes could be emptied onto the tables as space became available, but this LAST batch of stored books was scarcely opened. Lessons learned: we had TOO MANY books; the Community Room was too small for adequate display of all the categories (or, we gave too much of the space to the Mystery and Fiction sections, which were huge); and in spite of newspaper and TV publicity, we did not have large crowds of shoppers. We raised about $800 and pleased many people who acquired good books at bargain rates. But we are still faced with a huge clean-up task: thousands of unsold books.
